Description

Vintage Linen Postcards Depicting Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn in Las Vegas, Nevada. The image shows two vintage postcards of the Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn in Las Vegas, Nevada. The hotel was a historic and luxurious resort that first opened on April 24, 1950, and became the fifth casino on the Las Vegas Strip. History and Significance Ownership: While named after Wilbur Clark, much of the initial funding came from Cleveland mob boss Moe Dalitz. The hotel later had notable owners including Howard Hughes, who lived in the penthouse for four years, and eventually Steve Wynn. Glamour and Entertainment: The Desert Inn was known for its elegance, a pioneering golf course, and hosting iconic performers like Frank Sinatra, who made his Las Vegas debut there. It was considered the "gem of Las Vegas" by many locals and figures in the industry. Demolition: The resort celebrated its 50th anniversary in April 2000 before being sold to Steve Wynn, who closed it later that year. The hotel was demolished in stages, with the last towers imploded in 2004, to make way for the development of the Wynn and Encore resorts which now stand on the site.
