Thompson, Wisconsin Governor Patrick Lucey, Congressman Les Aspin, Wisconsin Governor Anthony Earl, Wisconsin Governor Lee Sherman Dreyfus, Milwaukee Mayor Henry Maier, General Douglas MacArthur, President Dwight Eisenhower, President John F. Kennedy, President Ronald Reagan, Mother Teresa, Supreme Court Justices William Douglas and William Rehnquist, sports figures Bart Starr and Vince Lombardi, musician Ray Charles, Martin Luther King, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Oprah Winfrey, Jackie Gleason, Andre Agassi, and Pope John Paul II. He also painted portraits of Green Bay Packers legends Brett Favre and Fred MacMurray. Pollard served the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. In 2000, Pollard was presented with the Georgia O'Keefe Award for Distinction in Visual Arts. Pollard attended the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Pollard created Celebrity Doll books for Samuel Lowe Publishing. Pollard painted over 5000 portraits. After painting Pope John Paul II's portrait, Pollard won the Pontiff's Medal. In 2004, Pollard received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Anderson Arts Center in Kenosha. The Rhode Center for the Arts has a Pollard Gallery in his honor. Pollard also received an honorary Doctorate from Carthage College. Pollard wrote the book "The Journal of a Portrait Painter and His Family". Pollard illustrated several coloring books including "Our Country", "Whiz Kids!", "My Favorite Prayers", "Jack Webb Coloring Book", "The Beatles Coloring Book", and "Las Vegas Coloring Book". Pollard illustrated many books by authors such as E.C. Reichert, Owen Chase, Erva Merow, Neil Boyton, and others. Some of the books illustrated by Pollard include "Freight Train", "Little Women", "Heidi", "Tom Sawyer", "Northwest Passage", "The Shipwreck of the Whaleship Essex", "Hercules the Giant", "Nantucket", "The Army of Today", "Circus of Madison Square", "Favorite Fairy Tales from Andersen", "Treasure Island", "The Heart of Juliet Jones", "Johann of the Trembling Hand", "Rainbox Tomorrow", "Ben-Hur", "Window on the Square", and others. George Pollard died on April 17, 2008, in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
