Vintage Whiting & Davis Art Deco Expandable Top Gold Tone Mesh Purse Beggars Bag. I have refrained from fixing this and this is best accomplished by skilled seamstress. Features a hinged snap-shut lid, often embossed with Art Deco or Art Nouveau motifs. My mother was the original owner. This is a beautiful vintage gold mesh bag with a gate top from Whiting & Davis, often referred to as a "Beggars Bag" . Style: Popular in the 1920s and 1930s, during the "Flapper"featuring era, it has a unique expanding accordion-style top. Constructed from gold-tone metal mesh, reminiscent of chainmail. Features a hinged snap-shut lid, often embossed with Art Deco or Art Nouveau motifs. Stitched into the lining of the purse is the original Whiting and David tag. You will notice from the lining photo that a few stitches have come loose. I have refrained from fixing this and this is best accomplished by skilled seamstress. Item is in excellent exterior condition. Hinged opening works smoothly, no holes in the mesh and wrist chain is complete. This purse has been stored away and unused for forty years. My mother was the original owner. Dimensions are from top of the lid to the bottom of the bag is 5 1/2". With the wrist chain, the total length is 10 inches. The accordian mouth extends to 4 12/" in diameter.
