Wolverine #25 (Marvel, June 1990) — Jo Duffy's debut issue as the new ongoing writer of the title, with a sharp Jim Lee cover that landed right as Lee's star was about to go supernova on Uncanny X-Men the following year. The "Heir Aid" story uses an unreliable-narrator framing — Logan babysitting a mob boss's kid and telling him a Jungle Book–style bedtime tale about a boy raised by wolverines — that's been read ever since as one of the earliest hints at a Wolverine origin, well before the Origin limited series ever went to print. Interiors are handled by John Buscema on full pencils and inks — a one-and-done fill-in that ended up being one of the most lavishly drawn issues of the early run.
