My sister says this lamp is better company than her date last Saturday night. I have quite a large collection of antique and art-glass lamps, yet this is the most unique piece I have ever owned or offered for sale. Designed and hand-crafted in the Louis Comfort Tiffany Studios style, it's classic turtleback design is timeless and beautiful. There are almost 1000 pieces of individual glass and jewels in various and complimentary colors in this single shade. The turtleback disks have an iridescence to them, while the mosaic pieces range in color from deep red to umber to golden. The predominant color is red--thought to bring good luck and fortune to it's owner. My nephew affectionately calls this lamp “The Mother Ship”. My neighbor calls it “Planet Neptune.” It is impossible to accurately capture the full splendor or size of this lamp in photos or a description. Even though I knew it was oversized when I purchased it, I was surprised at the scale of it when I placed it in my home. It immediately becomes the star attraction of any room. If you are a fan of the film SUNSET BOULEVARD, this lamp would fit right in to Norma Desmond's grand Hollywood mansion! This lamp is of very high-quality. There is no damage. It has no chips, cracks or separations. The base is a reproduction of the Tiffany Studios Louis XIV #550 classic base , very gothic in style, substantial and EXTREMELY heavy. The shade sits absolutely level. The Odyssey lamp heat cap sits securely on top. The lamp is unmarked, but I would guess it to be 20-30 years old. I believe the pineapple-beaded silk tassels are a later addition--but they go well with the exotic theme of this piece of practical art. They can easily be removed if so desired. I don’t know its origins, but I suspect this was commissioned by a very special individual. On a standard table, this lamp towers over 6’. It needs someplace very special—from a Victorian entryway, bay window, to a loft—or your favorite room. If your experience becomes anything like mine, this stunning lamp will soon become the most commented-on item you own!
