The Mesmerizing !!! Grateful Dead performance at ' Concertgebouw ' in Amsterdam - Holland !! on the Europe '72 Tour !!! ... May 10th, 1972 ( 5/10/72 ) : 4-CD Set !!!! Grateful Dead Fans who Love & even Live-for ! that Good Ol' Grateful Dead sound ... and at it's Absolute-Finest ! Offered here is the Mesmerizing !! 5/10/72 Amsterdam, Holland ! Show at ' Concertgebouw ! ' - the 14th Show ( of 22 ! ) from the Magical ! Grateful Dead Europe '72 Tour !! If you haven't heard this Show before ? My goodness are you in for a serious-treat - and a Grateful One !!! Let's just call this 4-CD a Dutch Treat ! ... Wow !!?! Well, as you might well expect - considering the time & era of Grateful Dead Music we are talking about here ... the Band is Red-Hot ! right out of the gate for this Monumental Tour ... but as this Amazing 4-CD Set well-proves - things just kept getting Hotter !!! on this Tour - with this Amsterdam Show very-well representing the Final 1/3rd mark in the Tour ! The ' Beginning ' of the final leg, if I may. Prior to Europe '72 - Seven ( 7 ) Shows were played at the Academy of Music in New York City in Late-March ( 3/21-28/72 ) - and if you have heard pieces, parts or all of that magnificent run - then you already know how ' effective ' that New York City run was as the ideal " Tour Warm-Up " for this Big-League Europe '72 stretch that was just right around the corner. Europe '72 kicked-off at Wembley Empire Pool ( London ) on 4/7/72 - as part of a two-night stand. And from there it was 20 More Shows ( 22 in Total ) stretching from London, to Newcastle upon Tyne ( England ) - to Copenhagen, to Aarhus ( Denmark ) - back to Copenhagen, to Bremen ( Germany ) - to Dusseldorf ( W. Germany ) - to Frankfurt ( 100 Year Hall ! ) - to Hamburg - to Paris - to the Bickershaw Festival ( Wigan, England ) ... then, Right-Here ! -- to Amsterdam, Holland !! ... at " Concertgebouw ! " -- Captured with Pristine Digital-Audio Excellence ! in this Huge 4-CD release ... Whoa !! -- then following, it was on to Rotterdam Holland - then to France - then to Luxembourg - to Munich ... and then back again to London for a final 4-night stand at the Lyceum ! Well ... some of these Europe '72 Shows were indeed ' Long ' ones - with this particular release being a huge 4-CD Show ! But, I can assure you of this ... the Dead weren't just playing all-night long in Amsterdam, because they had nothing better to do - because Wowwwww !!! - this Show was a long one, simply because it was insanely Hot ! - Massively Exploratory !! ... and they were a ' Collective ' Seamless ! unit all-throughout this Amazing ! Holland performance !! This Show is almost too-hot to even try to ' explain ' ... but, I shall indeed try ! On CD 1 ... the " Bertha ! " - Uncle - Charlie ! sparks this Show right out of the gate ... and succeeds in getting the Amsterdam Fans a Rockin' ! Then, no messin' around at all, as the Band jumps right into & lengthy and jammed !! China > Rider !!! Then, things meet a mix of hot-chops Blues numbers, in very-nice combination with a mix of the up-tempo ... B.T. Wind - Loser - Next Time You See Me - El Paso - He's Gone - and Chinatown Shuffle ... with both ! Loser & He's Gone being way-noteworthy ! Then ... CD 2 launches right ! with the Playing In The Band - which is indeed a tell-tale - of how Exploratory ! the rest of this Show could very-well be !! ... but, the Band pulls back - with it still being quite early in the Show, and lays back into the Rockin' ! with some serious attack !! >>> Big Railroad - Jack Straw - Tennessee Jed - Big Boss Man - Greatest Story & Casey Jones !!! See what I mean ... the Dead are on a straight-mission to Rock ! this Hall -- the ' Concertgebouw !!! '. Right on, for certain ... And, on CD 3 - it doesn't stop ! As Truckin' ! ' explodes ' right out of the gate !! But then, Drums leads quaintly into the Other One !!! And, instead of just a jam ( hard ) & go ... the Good Ol' Grateful Dead masterfully ' sandwich ' this Other One - with a Me & Bobby McGee !!! ... and then, Back ! into the Other One !!!!! Whoa !?! >>> Europe '72 !!! Then after ... the Wharf Rat just follows so very-nicely - which marks the end of CD 3. Then, on CD 4 - as if that wasn't enough " G.D. Amsterdam Magic ! " already ... B.I.O.D.T.L. !!! But then, it's Mellow Yellow time yet again ... with a fabulous 'trio' of low-tempoed Ballads & Beauties ! >>> Two Souls In Communion - Ramble On Rose & Sing Me Back Home !!! Pigpen ! - and then Double-Garcia !! leading the kind-way, on the microphone ! Wow ... And then, Yes !!!! as it is Party Time ' Again ' ... in Holland ! for the Dead !! ... Take it away Boys ! >>> Sugar Mag, NFA > GDTRFB > NFA !!!!!!!! Wow ... as this is just a Stellar ! Show, and to more than a ' great few ' ... some Fans believe this Show to be one of the Best ! of the Tour !! Clean, thoughtful, well-played, collectively in the groove, exploratory, and heavily-jammy !!! My goodness, well - one thing I can say ... if you were one of the Very-Lucky Few that found yourself inside ' Concertgebouw ' - in Amsterdam !! on 5/10/72 -- then That ! is a serious Lifetime accomplishment !! Right place, and the right time - in the right time & space, right ? Hmmm ... nahhh - because it was Definitely You ! that were a part of making this Show happen ... a Grateful Dead Europe '72 Show just Chocked-Full ! of G.D. Magic !!!
