Alright ... now just think back here - to the " 9th Year " of The Grateful Dead as a Band - and go ahead and just ' try ' to even fathom what like would have been like for Dead Fans from 1974 to 1995, and beyond ... and Beyond !?! It's so incredibly crazy to think that Bill Graham indeed billed this October 1974 Winterland run ( 10/16/1974 - 10/17/1974 - 10/18/1974 - 10/19/1974 - 10/20/1974 ) as the " Last Grateful Dead Shows ! " -- going as far aseven ' stamping ' the 10/20/74 ( Last-Show ) Ticket with " The Last One " !!! Well, in '74 - just following both the Wake Of The Flood ( '73 ) and Mars Hotel ( '74 ) Album releases ... and the subsequent ' Heavy ' touring with the " Wall Of Sound ! " ( and no-pun intended ... on the ' Wall ' part ! ) -- the Grateful Dead had decided to call it quits, take a ( permanent ? ) " Hiatus " to work on solo-projects, rest & relaxation, and basically anything other than ... ' Grateful Dead '. So, this was kind of a scary last-call here at the Winterland in October of '74 ... but, So-Thankfully ! - they just couldn't stay away ... and were all back again together playing Live in 1975, and eventually Touring once again ! in the Summer of 1976 - with also ... " Blues For Allah ! " being released in '75 !! So, as one can well expect ... the Live & Emotional ! Energy in these " Steal Your Face Volume 1 & Volume 2 " releases is On-High !! This Set was recorded purely ' Live ' at the Winterland in October of 1974 ( 10/16/74 - 10/20/74 ) - and was released in Album format in 1976, and then was not released in CD format until 1989 by ' Grateful Dead Records ' ... and here you have both !!
