Based on its style and materials it was made around mid-century, when badge guard pins were at the height of their popularity. This vintage Northwestern University badge guard pin is a rare and exquisite piece of collegiate jewelry. It is crafted from 10K solid gold and adorned with genuine seed pearls. Based on its style and materials it was made around mid-century, when badge guard pins were at the height of their popularity. The piece prominently features purity marks and a maker's mark, possibly N.S. Meyer, Inc., a well-known manufacturer of organizational insignia from that era. This piece was likely awarded as a special commemorative graduation keepsake or mark of distinction for Academic Honor Society members. The beautiful hand-finished badge guard pin consists of two parts connected by a cable link guard chain. Both pieces have secure roll over closures. Each of the miniature pins are about 10-12mm wide. The round medallion style badge pin prominently features the university seal, inscribed with the school's name, founding year and motto. There is a row of tiny seed pearls around the border. The connected guard pin features the university logo, intertwined letters "N" and "U", also adorned with seed pearls. Unfortunately the letter "U" is missing one of its pearls. Aside from the one missing pearl, every other part of this piece appears to be in great condition with no other visible flaws (see pictures). This "jewelry-grade" vintage badge guard pin is an amazing piece of collegiate memorabilia. It would be a treasure for collectors as well as former graduates of the renowned school.
