I will never forget my personal " finding " of the Michelangelo's brilliant 1970 film " Zabriskie Point ". In 1996, I was killing-time roaming around Silver Screen Video in Eugene, Oregon - and the cover of the VHS tape caught my eye. I flipped it over, looked at the notes on who was included in the Soundtrack - and that was all she wrote. Out came the $3.00 for the rental, and quickly home I went. Not only did we enjoy a very thoughtful & clever movie - which was truly a sign of the Late-60's Era ... but I was simply mesmerized by the mind-blowing audio soundtrack. We are talking about a ton of my ( and many people's ) favorite music artists : Jerry Garcia - The Grateful Dead - Pink Floyd - John Fahey & many-more ... To get straight to the most important part -- Jerry Garcia's 7-Minute " Love Scene " Instrumental is simply Amazing !!! - delicate, yet powerful & so-incredibly-awesome. And this is played in the movie throughout the " Love Scene " where the two main characters are rolling around naked in the California desert ! I actually recorded this thing VHS > Analog Cassette ! in 1996 because I just had to have it in my collection. I then took a trip to the CD Store, and special-ordered the only copy then available on CD ( the only 1-CD version ) which happened to be a British Import. Little did I know that this was shortly around the release corner -- a Massive Remastered 2-CD Set ( released in 1997 ) which offers not only the original 11 Songs re-mastered - but also a " 2nd Disc " which offers an Amazing Eight Bonus Tracks - consisting of unused takes & multiple song versions. This disc contains the four ( 4 ) unused " Love Song " Takes that Garcia laid down in the studio - before they decided on the final take that was used in the movie ! So, on this release - your ears & mind are treated to All-Five !! In addition, this 2nd disc also offers the Four ( 4 ) unused Pink Floyd tracks. I couldn't contain my excitement when I purchased this - as you even received a fancy slipcover - and a 39-Page Booklet !?! Not to mention, you've got tracks from The Grateful Dead ( Dark Star Excerpt ) - The Kaleidoscope - Patti Page - The Youngbloods - Roscoe Holcomb & John Fahey !
