Description
This is a rare single-page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the Third Edition of the "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" at the Ziegfeld Danse de Follies atop the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City ..... The "ZIEGFELD MIDNIGHT FROLIC" was a late-night series that Florenz Ziegfeld staged in the New Amsterdam's intimate rooftop theater, "Danse de Follies". For years he had watched his audiences exit the theater after his "Follies" performance, only to spend more money at one of the many nightclubs in New York City and the "Midnight Frolic" was his way of keeping the higher end customers (and their money) to himself. It featured a glass runway that let the chorus girls parade over the audiences heads, wearing tasteful ankle-length linen bloomers. A genuine hit, Ziegfeld produced a fully revised edition each year beginning in 1915, but Prohibition and changes in popular taste kept attendance down and made 1921 the last regular year for the "Frolic". Ziegfeld would stage one further edition in 1928. (Wikipedia) ..... The 1916 edition starred the DOLLY SISTERS (Yansci and Rozsika) and WILL ROGERS "With his Ropes" and featured PAUL FRAWLEY, ALLYN KING, FRED NICE, ADA MAY WEEKS, WILLIAM ROCK, FRANCES WHITE, SYBIL CARMEN, BIRD MILLMAN, the ARNAUT BROTHERS, DABNEY'S SYNCOPATED ORCHESTRA and the "30 MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRLS IN THE WORLD" ..... CREDITS: Music by DAVE STAMPER; Lyrics by GENE BUCK; Sets designed by JOSEPH URBAN; Costumes designed by CORA McGEACHY, AVON O'KANE CONWELL and LADY DUFF GORDON; Staged by NED WAYBURN; Produced by FLORENZ ZIEGFELD, Jr. .....
