Late '71 Live-Dead !!! ... straight from " The Vault " !!!!! It is time indeed ... for all of those " Good Ol' " Grateful Dead Fans ! out there to ' Fall-In ' for Dave's Picks 22 !!! What a Call ! from that oh-so Precious ! G.D. Vault !! for certain - as the very-first second I saw that this '71 Felt Forum Shows run would be " DP # 22 " - I found myself pondering in sheer Amazement ! ... & naturally too ... serious Excitement !!! As hey, let's face it - at least as far as the " Last Millennium " went - if you wanted a Sweet-Taste ! of G.D. Live Power & Precision on '71 Winter Tour at the Felt Forum ... you really had no choice but to go for either 12/4/1971 or 12/5/1971 ( Shows #1 & #2 ( of 4 ) ). As the true fact & reality of the matter was ( for, what pretty much what seemed like ' Ever ' ) that Both ! of these 12/6/1971 & 12/7/1971 Shows were simply not available, or really ... attainable in any matter - at least as far as I knew. Because trust me ... I combed Trader's list after lists, after lists hunting for these 12/6/71 & 12/7/71 Shows ( for years ... ) and the hunt was always to no avail. In fact, I even distinctly remember having conversations with some real serious Tapers & Tape-Traders too ( back, in those Glorious ! " Analog " Daze ... ) - and, the simple word on the street was that no-one had, or had even ' heard ' these ' Other ' 2-Shows from this Huge ! Winter 1971 Fall Tour stand at the Felt Forum. And, as it goes without even saying ... these Two-Shows were the ' Last-Two ' Shows of this 4-Show run !!!! I mean ... to put it bluntly, just go & track down the 12/5/71 " Dark Star " ( you'll be glad you did ! ) - as it speaks very loudly & very clearly why this is an Absolute ! Dead-run, where you Absolutely-Must ! hear It-All !! My guess initially ( like, well over 25-years ago ... ) was that the available 12/4/71 Show circulated fast ( mainly ) because of the " Run Rudolph Run ", and the 12/5/71 Show circulated ( obviously ... ) because it was an FM Broadcast ! Live & Direct from WNEW-New York - if, my memory does serve me correctly. So, the only question left was for sure the obvious one ... " What about the 12/6/71 & 12/7/71 Shows ?? " from this Red-Hot ! Live-Dead !! 1971 Winter Tour run !!!? Well, Three-Cheers !!! to 2017 ... because Now ! & Finally !! --- Here You Go !!! And my oh my ... was it Ever ! worth the Ride !! ... & " The Wait " !!! The Big Railroad Blues ! - the Playing In The Band ! - the Cryptical ! > Drums > Other One ! > Bobby McGee !! > Other One !!! - the Uncle John's Band !!! - Loser ! - China > Rider !!! - & Casey Jones !!! ... and really, on & On ! & On !! does this '71 Live-Dead Roller-Coster of Rock & Roll go !!! Wow ..... as this truly is one of the Gems ! from this G.D. release series - and especially... for all of the " Good Ol' " Grateful Dead Fans. In fact, I'm not so sure a better call from the Vault in all of " 1971 " could even be made ?!! Well, you know - either that ... or I'm just So ! Personally-Gleaming ! from ear-to-ear ( with a Grin ! ) that these Two ( 2 !! ) '71 Felt ! Shows have Finally !! been ... ' Set Free ' !!! All of that Deliciously-Twangy ! Garcia Guitar work that your Dead Fan Heart ! could ever desire. And too ... just less than 6-months as well before - Europe '72 ! - the '72 Academy Of Music ! run, and all of that other Grate ! '71/'72 Live stuff. And, as a final note too to sum up my overall thoughts on this one, as far as G.D. modern digital pro-releases go ... I Loved ! the Austin & TCU ( Road Trips ) release from Fall Tour '71 - and in listening to This ! '71 Felt Forum release ?! ... it was much of that same ( awesome ! ) warm fuzzy feeling - and honestly, maybe even more-so ... considering that this is Both ! of the 12/6/71 & 12/7/71 Felt Forum " New York " Shows that we are talking about here. My goodness ... just Nothing ! short - of Glorious !! Enjoy !!!!!
