This 1953 mono album from Esoteric Records (ES-519), An Ode on the Death of Mr. Henry Purcell, features performances of several works by John Blow and Henry Purcell, as performed by The New York Pro Musica Antiqua. Performers include Valarie Lamoree (Soprano), Russell Oberlin (Counter-Tenor I), Charles Bressler (Counter-Tenor II) and Arthur Squires (Tenor), accompanied by Bernard Krainis (Recorder), John Leonard (Recorder), George Koutzen (Violoncello) and Herman Chessid (Harpsichord). Album notes are in English by Max Serbin, plus full lyrics on a separate insert page. The outer sleeve shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back . (Photo 2) There is also an old tape repair along the bottom edge of the outer sleeve, a faint inkstamp of "SG" in the upper left corner of the back, and what appears to be "3509" written in the lower right corner. This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear. NOTES: Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection.
