Drafted during the height of the Vietnam War, Gomez became an American citizen in 1973 after serving a combat tour. He rose to Command Sergeant Major (E-9), the highest enlisted rank, retiring in 2005. An advocate for enlisted men and women and their families, he continues to volunteer in veteran's services.
