Billed at the time & commonly referred to as the " From Egypt with Love " Shows - this release captures the Band during a 5-night " Homecoming " from the Amazing ! & Surreal !! Experience of playing 3-nights in front of the Pyramids & Sphinx at the Gizah Sound & Light Theater in Cairo, Egypt !!! This was a fine chance & occasion for the band members to collectively spread the magic that they experienced on that Monumental Journey. As it also stands, this would be one of the final runs / stands of the Grateful Dead playing the Fan ( & Band ) favorite Winterland Arena on their Bay Area home-turf. This 23-track release ( Complete ! - with Very-Rare ' Bonus Disc CD ' included ! ) is simply Fantastic ! - and is one of the Very-Finest ! Road Trips Series releases. There is clearly " Love in the Air ! ", and the synergy between the Fans & the Band is captured beautifully in this audio-mix. From a personal standpoint, this is one ( if not ' the ' ) Road Trips I was most excited to receive when I heard it would be released way-back in 2008. Over the years, I'm just one of the numerous ! numbers of loyal Dead Fans that have given the analog tapes from this run a serious ' workout '. The news that significant highlights from this run would be available in a digitally-remastered / pro-release format was a true cause for celebration !! Clearly one of the Finest '78 runs of Shows delivered by the Band, as there are abundant Musical Treasures ! all-throughout this 3-CD set. Not only beautiful & well-played tunes from this " Era " like Passenger, Stagger Lee, and Miracle -- but also historic " Special-Treat " versions the likes of Scarlet > Fire - and the blistering-hot " I've Got My Mojo Workin' > Other One ! ". It should be proudly-noted that Garcia puts a muscle-style workout on his MXR Distortion + pedal during the Other One ascension, that might even make Jimmy Page or Tony Iommi raise an eyebrow. Ha ! Just ' Big-League ' Garcia ! ... and one of the 1st glimpses of what would become an early taste of hot & heavy good-nights in " The 80's ! " when Jerry would eventually convert to primarily Boss distortion equipment ( OD-1 / HM-2 - etc. ) for a mightier tone-heavy delivery. There are many moments on this release that border/equal music perfection - at least to my humble Grateful Dead ears. This is without question a Must-Hear & Must-Have, in my opinion. And as far as the " Bonus Disc " ... the He's Gone will just make your spine tingle, and Had the World to Give ?!! Well, here indeed is my own super-short personal story on this-one : I was listening to this song on my 10/17/78 analog tape ( through head-phones ) at just before midnight on 8/8/95. After the tune, I hung'em up, turned off the tape-deck and went to bed. The next morning she called me letting me know that Jerry had passed. So, even though it can sometimes be a bit tough to hear for me ... I'm all the more grateful to own this legendary live-track in pristine A + quality.
